Public Discussion Organized with the Occasion of World Contraception Day[:]

29 September, 2021

On September 28, 2021, UNFPA Moldova, in partnership with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, organized a live public discussion entitled World Contraception Day: plan your life as you would like it to be!” The discussion, moderated by Maria Marian, brought together four local leaders in the fields of sexual and reproductive health and rights and disability rights including Dr. Galina Lesco, director of the national Youth-Friendly Health Center “Neovita”, Dna Galina Climov, executive director of the Alliance of Organizations for People with Disabilities in the Republic of Moldova, Dr. Victoria Ciubotaru, the coordinator of the National Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Program, and Dr. Rodica Comendant, director of the Reproductive Health Training Center of the Republic of Moldova.

The discussion highlighted many of the progresses made in promoting access and use of contraception among adolescents and women in the Republic of Moldova in recent years. At the same time, participants discussed issues related to knowledge about and access to contraception that require much more attention in order to make the title of the event a reality, that is, for all couples in Moldova to plan their live as they would like it to be with the help of contraception.

Though World Contraception Day is celebrated every year on September 26, the event took place on September 28, not coincidentally the day in which International Safe Abortion Day is celebrated. As mentioned by Dr. Rodica Comendant during this dynamic and engaging discussion, “you cannot talk about abortion without talking about contraception, the two are closely linked.”

The discussion was broadcasted live on Facebook and can be accessed on UNFPA Moldova’s Facebook Page here or on the Privesc.Eu Moldova Youtube channel here. Interspersed throughout the discussion are short clips developed by the team at Suntparinte.md in collaboration with UNFPA Moldova portraying the stories of fellow Moldovans in planning their lives as they want it to be.
