WHO 2022 recommendations closer to women and health care providers in Transnistria

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION PERIOD: July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2026

PROJECT GOAL: Implementation of the latest WHO recommendations on safe abortion and family planning services in Transnistria.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

  • To integrate family planning and safe abortion services into the existing healthcare system of Transnistria in accordance with the latest WHO recommendations, as recognized by local health authorities.
  • To strengthen reproductive health and family planning (RH and FP) capacities in accordance with the latest WHO recommendations, and to coordinate services in the region through the Tiraspol Center for Reproductive Health and Family Planning via seven model reproductive health centers.
  • To provide quality consultations on Medical Abortion (MA) through telemedicine by obstetricians-gynecologists from the 7 model reproductive health centers in Transnistria, based on the latest WHO recommendations.
  • To expand access to information and reproductive health and family planning services among women and girls in Transnistria, especially those living in rural areas, with limited financial resources, or who have disabilities.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES:

  • Organize a roundtable to launch the project and gain support from stakeholders.
  • Conduct activities to announce the project’s start and discuss the potential steps and opportunities for implementing WHO’s recommendations on self-care regarding reproductive health, family planning services, and safe abortion according to the latest WHO guidelines.
  • Hold training sessions for medical staff at the Center for Reproductive Health and Family Planning and RH and FP services in districts and cities in Tiraspol, based on the latest WHO recommendations.
  • Provide ongoing support to the Center for Reproductive Health and Family Planning and RH and FP services in providing and coordinating reproductive health and family planning services in line with the latest WHO recommendations.
  • Develop an interactive website for reproductive health, family planning, and safe abortion information for women, including through telemedicine.
  • Conduct training for doctors from the 7 model centers in Transnistria on the latest 2022 WHO recommendations regarding family planning and safe abortion services.
  • Support the provision of family planning and safe abortion services, in line with the latest WHO recommendations, for women and girls with unwanted pregnancies in Transnistria.
  • Prepare and distribute informational materials on reproductive health and family planning in accordance with the latest WHO recommendations for potential beneficiaries.
  • Hold a roundtable to analyze the results achieved within the framework of this project.
