Inclusive and Accessible for All: A Multi-Component Approach to Advancing the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women and Girls with Disabilities

PROJECT GOAL: To promote fully inclusive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, information, policies, and infrastructure for women and girls with disabilities.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

  1. Enhance the capacity of women and girls with disabilities to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights and enable them to transfer sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) knowledge to peers and colleagues.
  2. Improve service providers’ communication and other skills required to provide rights-based sexual and reproductive health services to women and girls with disabilities.
  3. Improve existing practices and referral pathways for ensuring that women and girls with disabilities obtain quality sexual and reproductive health care and information.
  4. Increase the accountability of healthcare facilities to ensure services are accessible to women and girls with disabilities and improve monitoring and evaluation of associated progress.
  5. Strengthen political will and commitment to ensure universal access to SRH services and information, including for women and girls with disabilities.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES:

  • Activity 1.1: Conduct training of trainers on SRHR with women and girls with disabilities from Northern, Central, and Southern Moldova.
  • Activity 1.2: Create a series of informational videos narrated by women and girls with disabilities in which they discuss and describe key SRHR topics.
  • Activity 2.1: Carry out professional development trainings with SRH coordinators on the provision of SRH services for women and girls with disabilities.
  • Activity 2.2: Conduct online trainings with primary medical providers and nursing staff to build their capacity to deliver quality SRH services to women and girls with disabilities.
  • Activity 2.3: Develop and distribute rights-based SRH service provision manuals to primary care doctors and nursing staff.
  • Activity 3.1: Conduct online trainings with social workers on the SRHR of women and girls with disabilities, SRH services and benefits available to their beneficiaries, and how to appropriately refer them so that they receive the care and support they need.
  • Activity 3.2: Develop and distribute SRHR support guide for social workers.
  • Activity 3.3: Revise university curriculum for social work studies to include module on SRHR of beneficiaries, including women and girls with disabilities.
  • Activity 4.1: Revise the National Standards for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Outpatient Healthcare Facilities to include international accessibility standards that facilities must meet in order to obtain accreditation or reaccreditation (every five years).
  • Activity 4.2: Update National Health Insurance Agency’s list of performance indicators to include indicators established for National Program on SRHR 2018–2022.
  • Activity 5.1: Organize project launch event with key stakeholders to present the project framework and justification, discuss support required from participants, and solicit their input.
  • Activity 5.2: Carry out stakeholder dissemination meeting to discuss project outcomes and develop an action plan for sustaining activities and results.
